What Is a Pulpotomy?
A pulpotomy, also known as pulp therapy, is when the inner pulp of a tooth has become damaged, but the infection hasn’t spread to the pulp root yet. During a pulpotomy, we’ll only remove the affected areas. Pulp therapy is essentially a root canal for baby teeth that allows us to save the remaining pulp and the tooth!
Does My Child Need Pulp Therapy?
While every child is different, here are some common signs you can look out for with your little one:
- They’re complaining about tooth pain during the day or at night
- Tooth sensitivity when they’re consuming something hot or cold
- Swelling or redness around one of their teeth
If your kiddo is displaying any of these symptoms, please call our office as soon as possible so that we can get them in for a consultation.
What Happens If Left Untreated
If your child doesn’t get a pulpotomy, it’s possible that they could lose the tooth or have it prematurely extracted. When this happens, their remaining teeth may shift into the space which can negatively affect their bite alignment and cause issues when their permanent teeth start to erupt.
